Czech republic stands in solidarity with Tibet
On March 10, 2025, over 870 town halls across the Czech Republic raised the Tibetan flag to commemorate the 66th anniversary of the Tibetan Uprising against Chinese rule. This annual gesture symbolizes the Czech people’s unwavering support for Tibet.
Martin Bursík, former Minister of the Environment and co-founder of the organization ‘‘Češi Tibet podporují’‘ (Czechs Support Tibet), emphasized the ongoing repression in Tibet. He highlighted that Tibetans continue to face wrongful imprisonment, torture, and forced assimilation.
Bursík raised serious concerns over China’s policy of removing Tibetan children from their families and placing them in state-run boarding schools. Over a million Tibetan children have been forced into these institutions, where they are stripped of their language and culture and indoctrinated with communist ideology.
Another alarming issue is the mass collection of Tibetans’ DNA by Chinese authorities, which raises fears of intensified surveillance and potential ethnic cleansing.
Bursík also drew parallels between Tibet and the Czech Republic, noting that both nations have suffered occupation by foreign powers. He stressed the importance of international solidarity, urging democratic countries to take a stronger stand against China’s human rights violations in Tibet.
